Conference process
The intention of the conference was to use case studies to create greater clarity
on dealing with tensions between the goals of peace and justice that can
arise in peace negotiations and in post-conflict peace-keeping. The conference
promotes, throughout its three phases, a sustainable peace concept that
comprises not only peace, but also justice, security, development and
institutional reforms.
Phase 1: The preparation process
Up to April 2007 thematically and regionally oriented studies on the core issues
of the conference were conducted. The results were then fed into
Phase 2: The conference
The intention of the conference from 25 to 27 June 2007 was to reflect the
results of the studies with research results and positions adopted by politics
and civil society. A mandate for devising political recommendations was issued.
Phase 3: The follow-up process
In the follow-up process that started in July 2007, the political recommendations
are being drafted, consulted and propagated.
